Google built an AI to talk to dolphins, and it’s actually working

• Apple is reportedly developing two new Vision Pro headsets, including a lighter, more affordable model to address criticisms of the original's $3,500 price tag and 1.5-pound weight that causes discomfort during extended use.

• A second professional-focused model is being designed to connect directly to Macs for ultra-low-latency applications in fields like medical imaging and flight simulation, leveraging the full processing power of Mac computers.

• The tech giant is also working on smart glasses with cameras and microphones similar to Meta's Ray-Ban AI Glasses, potentially launching the new Vision Pro models by year-end while the glasses might not debut until 2027.

• Google has partnered with the Wild Dolphin Project to develop DolphinGemma, an AI model based on its Gemma framework that analyzes complex dolphin vocalizations and communication patterns.

• Researchers have already identified some dolphin sounds like signature whistles used as names and "squawk" patterns during fights, but they hope this AI collaboration will reveal if dolphins have a structured language.

• The new AI model uses Google's SoundStream technology to tokenize dolphin sounds, allowing real-time analysis of the marine mammals' complex whistles and clicks that have puzzled scientists for decades.
